MBABANE – Volunteers from the Jehovah’s Witnesses movement are building a 160-seat hall in Nkoyoyo, which will be able to resist mild earth tremors.
Jehovah’s Witnesses refer to their congregating buildings as ‘Kingdom halls’.

The hall, whose construction was started during early February, 2014 is expected to be completed in May.
At least 60 volunteers, young and old joined in to build the hall.
Obadiah Mthupha, one of the elders at the church, said each member contributed their skills to building the hall which will be the second of its type in Swaziland.

Costs

He said because of their voluntary efforts, there will be no labour costs incurred.
Mthupha said the hall will have a floating concrete slab as part of its foundation.
“We did not dig the foundation like it is done with other buildings,” he said.
He said the land was first pressed then flattened.

Mthupha then said a concrete slab was then laid over the surface to give the impression of a floating slab.
He said with this kind of design, the building will be able to resist some earth tremours which can cause ordinary structures to develop cracks.
Mthupha said all the people taking part in the building of the hall were volunteers who were also members of the movement.
He said volunteers from South Africa and the United States of America taught local congregants how to build the hall.

Mthupha said a similar structure was also built at Sigangeni by Jehovah’s Witnesses although it is smaller than the one at Nkoyoyo.
John Lucas, who is a volunteer from the USA, said the material used to build the hall was brought into the country from South Africa.
He said the type of structure being built was meant to be 99 per cent maintenance free.

Lucas said only facebrick, also popularly known locally as ‘Langa Bricks’  were used to build the hall.
He said this type was chosen because the wall did not re    quire a lot of maintenance.

Lucas said this type of construction is used by Jehovah’s witnesses worldwide. “We also want to make sure that regardless of where the witnesses are, they use standard structures,” he said.
He said by volunteering to build the structures, it was also a type of worship for congregants.
He said it was a form of giving.

Jehovah's Witnesses are a huge construction company with volunteer, free workers. They have acquired massive real estate worldwide. I was a member for over 30 years. However, if anyone wishes to leave their Kingdom Hall group, they are "shunned" and cut off from family and friends. It is a very destructive religion, it ruptures families. Much sadness is caused. God does not choose just one religion as truth, Jesus died for ALL men.

Enlightened, you are mistaken when you state that all religions are true religions. Jesuschrist stated himself that there are two roads and we have to choose a narrow paththat leads to ever lasting life, and not all can go through, and a wide path that is the one that leads to distruction, not all religions are the truth,

Styles, it seems to me very strange that the Jehovah's Witnesses ask other people to read their publications, yet refuse to read religious pamphlets from other religions. You will shortly be read one page of a 4 page letter from Wt. head office instructing them to collect monthly funds from the brothers for the worldwide work, and pledge it to Wt. head office. A form of tithing..........a sure financial cashflow they can count on monthly. Ask to see the other 3 pages, and it will be refused you. Just try that and see how transparent the Watchtower organization is for yourself.

Thank you for the article about the local construction work going on in Swaziland. People may not realize it but this is part of a global construction campaign to provide dignified facilities to educate people about the true God, Jehovah. Don't take seriously the negative comments previously posted. Opposers won't say the truth or will misrepresent the truth, just as they do God. If there was no demand we would not need to construct new buildings for worship. Expect to see many more project of this type, completely financed by Jehovah's Witnesses voluntarily. THE CONGREGATIONS own the Kingdom Halls, NOT the Watchtower Society. The voluntary labor keeps the cost down and ensures that everyone will do work to a consistent standard, while ensuring that safety issues can be observed, for the protection of the workers, as well as the attendees. I hope you will visit the Kingdom Hall or one of the 113,000+ congregations world-wide to see for yourself.
