2 TSWANAS KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT
MBABANE – Two Botswana nationals have been killed in a car accident last week Thursday. The accident happened along Msahweni-Buhleni Public Road in northern Hhohho. The car they were travelling in, a white Kia Sportage Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with registration B 623 ARL was driven by a 23-year-old man of Motana, Botswana.
It is said that the driver of the vehicle lost control and the vehicle, because of excessive speeding capsized and overturned several times fatally injuring the passengers.
The driver and the passenger, a 25-year-old man also from Botswana, sustained serious injuries and were both rushed to Mkhuzweni Health Centre where they were confirmed dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Hebert Mawela and Denis Selebe. However, at the time of compiling the report, the police had not managed to ascertain who drove the vehicle at the time it was involved in the accident.
It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a corner at Ndlalambi.
The motor vehicle they were travelling in was extensively damaged. Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Superintendent Wendy Hleta confirmed the accident. Hleta said the accident happened on Thursday night at around 8 pm.
The car in which they were travelling was towed to Piggs Peak Police Station.
“They had just crossed into the country via the Matsamo Border Post when they were involved in the accident. Their passports show that they have been visiting the country frequently. We are still trying to locate their next of kin,” said the PRO.
The last time they were in the country was 15 days back as reflected on their passports, revealed Hleta.
The University of Swaziland’s Student Representative Council’s President Maxwell Dlamini said he had not heard if the said people were attending the recently held varsity games. Dlamini said other students use their private cars while attending the games while others used organised transport in the form of buses and kombis.
“I will still have to check if they were part of those that have attended the games probably tomorrow (today). I might have got something if they were involved in the games,” said Dlamini.
