MBABANE – A five-year-old boy has died while swimming at Cuddle Puddle in Ezulwini.

The incident happened on Sunday evening at around 6pm. Thokozani Msibi confirmed the incident. “We had just gone to have fun at Cuddle Puddle when the incident happened. I was with the children inside the pool keeping an eye on them to make sure they were safe.

When we were about to leave, one of Sicalo’s friends called him and they continued to swim while I was getting dressed outside the pool,” narrated Msibi.
He said shortly after he came out of the pool, an alarm was raised by some of those who were still swimming that a child has drowned. Msibi said he, among others, went to check and he found that the boy had drowned. “I called an ambulance but it delayed hence I drove him to Medisun Clinic where he was confirmed dead,” said Msibi.

It was not for the first time the family had gone swimming as they usually went there to entertain themselves especially during the festive season. Msibi lamented the accident and said preparations were underway to inform other family members and prepare for burial.

Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Superintendent Wendy Hleta also confirmed the matter. “A five year old boy of Mahlanya drowned while swimming in a swimming pool at Ezulwini. He was certified dead upon arrival at the Medisun Clinic,” said the PRO.

The PRO went on to advise parents to keep an eye on their children at all given times so to avoid similar incident.
The PRO however, noted that in the afore mentioned incident, the relatives of the deceased were with him when he met his death and said police are still investigating as to what might have led to the minor drowning.

This is not the first drowning to take place at the pool. As it is the festive season, children and families flock to have fun and celebrate at the hot springs.
Sought for comment, the receptionist said the relevant person to comment was still not around and refused to give out her employer’s details so they could be contacted.
