MATSAPHA – The Kwaluseni Infant Primary School Head teacher, Nelson Lukhele, is alleged to have abused his powers and verbally suspended one of the teachers at the school.

This is the same head teacher who threw in limbo the future of one of his pupils by expelling him while the Standard V external examinations were ongoing recently.
The suspended teacher is said to have been given the orders to stay at home about three weeks before schools closed without the sanction of the Teaching Service Commission (TSC).

Lukhele is alleged to have not given the teacher any formal letter of suspension.
It could not be readily established why the head teacher opted to act in such a manner but information gathered from our sources is that the teacher had a confrontation with one of her colleagues at the school, which saw the head teacher cracking the whip.

When sought for comment, the teacher, who has been put on ice for close to a month now, preferred not to get into details of the matter. She said he was still coming to terms with what had befallen her and that she fears further victimisation once she returns to the school.

“That is a story for another day,” said the teacher, who will not be identified for now as the issue is being dealt with by the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) and the Ministry of Education and Training through the office of the Regional Education Officer.

The head teacher, Lukhele, refused to entertain journalists when approached at the school. “He runs the school with an iron hand,” alleged one of the teachers at the school, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“He is feared by all here and nobody dares to question how far his authority goes with regard to dealing with administrative issues amongs his staff,” further alleged the teacher.  The head teacher is said to have even tightened surveillance at the school by installing CCTV cameras on every corner to monitor everyone’s movement within the premises.
