E4.6m worth of dagga destroyed

PIGG’S PEAK – The Royal Swaziland Police Service destroyed dagga worth over E4.6 million yesterday.


The consignment weighed 11 721.202 kilogrammes.  The destruction exercise was conducted in one of the blasting furnaces situated a few kilometres from Pigg’s Peak.


According to Inspector Ephraim Maphalala, the dagga had been collected from all the country’s four regions and the suspects arrested in connection with its possession have been convicted after they were tried in court.  The dagga according to police, had a street value of E4 688 480. 80.


The inspector said there was an indication that dagga farming had drastically increased when compared to the previous year. He said in October 2012, police destroyed 6905.1788 kilogrammes of dagga which had a street value of E2.7 million.
