EZULWINI - The over 50 000 SPTC customers whose fixed phones were switched off will be happy to learn that the gadgets will soon be re-launched.

This was disclosed by Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC) acting Managing Director Petros Dlamini during the launch of three new wireless loop gadgets at Royal Villas Hotel and Resort yesterday.
Dlamini said the modified version of fixed phones would be fully immobile.

“I would like to assure the thousands of customers who bought our fixed phones and thousands of customers who bought our wireless dongles that their service will be re-provisioned for the wireless local loop service,” said Dlamini.

Finalised

Interviewed after the launch, Dlamini said the fixed phones relaunch plan had been finalised.
“This (launch of wireless local loop services) was the first step. We did not want to cloud the process of introducing new innovations but we already have the plan on how the fixed phones will be re-launched, it now awaits approval by the Board of Directors,” he said.
During the Southern Africa Development Community meeting held at Happy Valley Hotel earlier this year, SPTC presented a draft plan on how the fixed phones could be relaunched in order.

According to Dlamini, the proposed plan was presented during the SADC meeting purely to get feedback from the telecommunications experts who attended the meeting on whether the fixed phones plan was feasible or not.
According to the plan, which was presented by Head of Marketing Charles Ndlovu and seconded by the acting MD Dlamini, customers would be expected to submit their old gadgets to the corporation.

Modification

Thereafter, the modification process would take place and it would include the removal of aerials, in order to make the phones immobile. Ndlovu said the re-launched version of fixed phones would not be movable.
He said they would only operate when connected to an external antenna to ensure that customers do not have any chances to dodge the system, since the phone would automatically switch off when disconnected from the external antenna.

It was also stated that the external antenna would be fixed to a building or business structure to be chosen by the customer through a power cable that would enable the phone to automatically become dysfunctional when disconnected.

... get ready to talk waya waya

EZULWINI - If you have a defunct fixed phone, dust it and get ready to keep in touch with your friends, and relatives once again.

The gadgets that were purchased by about 50 000 customers in various parts of the country will be relaunched in about three months time.
SPTC acting Managing Director Petros Dlamini said a reimbursement plan has been drawn up by the organisation.

Modified

“The modified fixed phones will be relaunched before the end of the second quarter or sooner,” Dlamini said.
Acting General Manager Telecoms Francis Dlamini disclosed that during deliberations of how the fixed phones would be relaunched, there had been interesting debates among management on whether to relaunch the phones with the same name.

He said it was eventually agreed that it be relaunched under the same name.
