SITEKI - Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) Chief Gija has told the Voice of America (VOA) that the upcoming general elections will be credible.

On Sunday, VOA, one of the leading media houses in the United States of America (USA) ran a story on the country’s registration process for the upcoming elections.

Chief Gija was quoted saying: “I am confident that they will be very credible like the one we had before and judging by the interest of the people, I am 100 per cent confident that it is going to be a credible election process.”
It was further reported that the EBC would be sending invitation letters to international poll observer groups to monitor the elections as from Monday this week.

“We are expecting, probably, the head of state to be signing the document, which will actually declare the date of the elections, giving us dates like the nomination dates and the elections dates,” Chief Gija said.  “So, by then, we should be able, next week, to invite all organisations and countries who are interested in monitoring the vote,” Chief Gija reportedly told VOA.

The EBC chairman said about 600 000 Swazis were eligible to vote adding that the registration process was expected to come to an end towards the end of next month.
“We hope to finish registration by June 23 and we are getting ready for the elections, which would be somewhere around September,” he said.
