Beaten
Last week, a 30-year-old Mozambican national was brutally attacked with a bush knife and beaten with sticks to death at Sibovini under Maphungwane Umphakatsi on Monday morning.
This publication quoted Ndiphethe Hlatshwako, the Maphungwane Umphakatsi Bucopho, as stating that the Mozambican, who was accompanied by a friend, attempted to rob a homestead in the early hours of Monday. Hlatshwako mentioned that they used a fake firearm to intimidate the family and they stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled. During the incident, some family members alerted neighbours, who pursued the robbers. The mob captured the Mozambican national while his accomplice escaped. “The Mozambican ran into a dam but was retrieved by the mob and assaulted until he died. It is regrettable that people continue to take the law into their own hands, when such incidents should be reported to traditional leaders or the police,” Hlatshwako said.
Hacked
The police confirmed that the 30-year-old Mozambican national from Sibovini died after being hacked with a bush knife and beaten with sticks multiple times on Monday around 5:45am.
A poacher was also shot dead. In 2022, it was reported that a two-year-old child witnessed his father being violently seized and mercilessly hacked to death by a mob. This harrowing incident befell the Motsa family, whose member was attacked by a group of approximately 40 people at night at Logoba. The deceased, Majahonkhe Motsa (31), was at home with his partner and their two-year-old son, when the mob broke in and reportedly stole E11 000 and his new shoes. Motsa left behind his partner, four minor children, his father and siblings. In a separate incident, on Saturday at 8am, at Kakholwane along Hlatikhulu-Sidvokodvo (MR9) Public Road a bus, Ticizeni Transport, caught fire and was burnt beyond repair. The fire started at the rear left tyres. No one was injured during the incident.
