SOME ATM BOMBING SUSPECTS HAD SASHES AROUND WAISTS

MBABANE - Some of the South African nationals who were arrested along with an employee of Eswatini Television Authority, in connection with allegedly bombing various automated teller machines (ATMs), were allegedly found with sashes around their waists.

The arrested South African nationals are Sicelo Msibi (26), Muziwandile Lukhele (33), Given Mfanakazane Mavuso (19) all from Tjakastad in South Africa. They were arrested along with Lindani Zitha of Nkhaba and they are facing 17 counts, manly malicious damage to property, following the bombing of ATMs around the capital city. The significance of the sashes could not be ascertained, however, it is common cause that sashes are associated with prophecies in the Zion faith.

Information gathered was to the effect that the police officers made the discovery when searching the accused persons after they came driving in a new Nissan Funga, with new clothes loaded inside the boot at a roadblock manned at Mangwaneni in Mbabane.  Investigations later revealed that the Nissan Funga valued at E26 000 and the clothes valued at E9 900, were purchased with some of the money that was allegedly stolen from the bombed Standard Bank ATM, situated at the Industrial Site in Mbabane. At the time, it is alleged that Zitha had passed the roadblock with a motor mechanic who was driving in a BMW. The mechanic, according to sources had transported the accused persons to Matsapha, where they eventually purchased the Nissan Funga. It has been alleged that E455 350 was stolen during the commission of the offence.
