MBABANE – Government is shutting down the Revenue Offices to make way for a takeover by the Eswatini Revenue Services (ERS).

This was proclaimed by the Minister of Finance, Neal Rijkenberg, during the debate of the Finance Ministry’s first quarter performance report yesterday. This, the minister said, would happen soon. “We are shutting down the Revenue Offices and ERS is taking over. We are aiming to absorb the staff into the ministry and trying to get officers transferred before considering retrenchments,” said Rijkenberg.

The minister further said the matter of Swaziland Women Economic Empowerment (SWEET) could no longer be addressed by his office as it had now been referred to the security agencies.
He said this in response to a question on SWEET by Ndzingeni MP Lutfo Dlamini during the debate. “It is difficult to conclude this matter as it has now been referred to security agencies. However, it requires time to recover the money belonging to emaSwati which was lost,” said the minister. The Ndzingeni MP had also questioned the minister on the rehabilitation of tinkhundla centres after they were burnt down.

Request

“The ministry is awaiting a request from the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development for the budget to fix the centres. However, cash is restricted but effort is being made to avail if need be,” stated the minister. The minister further said in terms of the roads rehabilitation budget, the MR2 was on the list of roads which would be included in the budget.
