3 MPS TAKE SWIPE AT POLICE CHIEF OVER WARNING

NKONYENI – The three legislators who have been quite vocal regarding the death of Thabani Nkomonye, have taken a swipe at the National Commissioner of Police, William Tsitsibala Dlamini, for reprimanding them.

The legislators held a press conference at Nkonyeni Lodge and Golf Estate where they were joined by the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), Mbongwa Dlamini and Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) President Quinton Dlamini. The three members of Parliament were Hosea Constituency representative Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza, Siphofaneni’s Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane and Ngwemphisi’s Mthandeni Dube. The national commissioner was captured by our sister publication, Times SUNDAY, criticising some Members of Parliament (MPs) who joined the march, saying he expected that the lawmakers would be deliberating on national issues in the chambers as opposed to a situation wherein they would be understood to have issued a threat; ‘ iyolala ibonene’. The national commissioner said MPs were nominated at chiefdom level and elected by people at various Tinkhundla centres to pass laws and to promote economic interests of the country.

He further urged the legislators to return to the electorate and establish if they were still serving their interests. Dlamini further warned people against inciting violence through social media. To this, Hosea Constituency MP Mabuza said legislators ought to listen to the public and by attending the memorial service of the deceased University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Law student, Nkomonye, they were carrying out part of their duties.He wondered what was different about Thabani such that they were not supposed to support his family like in other instances. Mabuza said the family of the deceased had unanswered questions relating to the demise of their loved one. “I want to clarify that I’m a legislator because of Tinkhundla. It is where I was voted for to go to Parliament and I now represent all people as those who voted me into Parliament come from all walks of life – SNAT, EFF Swaziland, SNUS and NAPSAWU among many,” he said.

He said the unfortunate part was that some of the legislators who were voted for by the people tended to restrict themselves to the issues of their constituencies only yet they were supposed to represent all emaSwati.
