MBABANE – In what can only be described as a dramatic movie scene, a female cop is alleged to have held an elderly woman hostage for about three hours.

The elderly woman is the paternal grandmother to her three-year-old child. The reason, according to the elderly woman, was that the female police officer, *Ngeti, was trying to convince her not to allow her son (also a police officer) to traditionally wed (kuteka) another woman. The two officers have a three-year-old child together as they were once in a relationship. The incident has since been reported at the Mafutseni Police Station and is said to have taken place over a week ago.

Ceremony

According to the male officer, *Pawula, on a Friday morning, he received a call from his mother which was rather strange as she asked him not to go ahead with the intended ceremony of kuteka. It should be noted, however, that the kuteka ceremony continued. Narrating the ordeal, Pawula alleged that it was around 8am and his mother was preparing to open a preschool which she taught at in Mafutseni. He said when his mother was still attending to the preschoolers and sanitising them, the mother of his child, Ngeti, arrived at the school premises driving a grey Toyota sedan. “She asked that my mother joins her in the vehicle as there was a matter which she wished to discuss with her,” said Pawula.

Oblivious to what may befall her, the elderly woman went to the car. Pawula, however, alleged that after his mother had boarded vehicle, the female cop allegedly automatically locked the car and produced a screwdriver which she threatened to use should the elderly woman cause trouble. It was reported that Ngeti then drove the woman to a secluded place which had many trees somewhere near Mahlabane. It was alleged that when they reached the secluded spot, Ngeti continued asking the woman why she was allowing her son to wed another woman. Ngeti is said to have made all sorts of threats against the elderly woman, some of which cannot be repeated.  It was further claimed that the female officer instructed the elderly woman to call her son and inform him, in a calm manner, that she had reservations against him taking this unidentified woman as a wife because she had heard unsavoury things about her. The elderly woman was said to have been held hostage for a period of almost three hours, with back and fourth talks.
