MBABANE – Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini has been transferred to a South African hospital to guide and fast-track his recovery process.

The PM was whisked away yesterday afternoon from the Lubombo Referral Hospital via the Sikhuphe International Airport. He was admitted to the Siteki-based hospital last Wednesday after being transferred from the Mbabane Government Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Themba Masuku yesterday issued a statement on the transfer of the head of government to the neighbouring country. However, the hospital where he would be recuperating at was not identified.

The statement reads; “Government wishes to update the nation that His Excellency, the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, is responding well to treatment after contracting COVID-19 and remains stable. To guide and fast-track his recovery, a decision has since been taken that he be transferred to a South African hospital this afternoon (yesterday). “The minister of Health will continue to provide appropriate updates. We wish His Excellency a full and speedy recovery.” The head of government has been receiving treatment at the Siteki facility for almost a week after his admission.

Confirmed

Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi confirmed the transfer yesterday. Nkosi mentioned that the  head of government’s transfer was procedural as the COVID-19 pandemic monitoring process was executed in stages by health practitioners, hence the need to transfer him to get a systematic monitoring process in line with his present state of recovery stage. “In fact, we have the best doctors that were monitoring his recovery process at the Siteki facility following his transfer there from the Mbabane Government Hospital. The recovery process goes in stages. The PM was recovering well and has undergone all the processes of that transitional recovery stage and the decision to transfer him to South Africa has to do with that process. There is nothing sinister with that,” said the minister.

When further quizzed if the PM’s prompt transfer had to do with any inefficiency related to the local health system and facilities, Nkosi stated that the ministry had set up and established the best facilities that could be trusted by any liSwati.
