MBABANE – The Ministry of Health announced 19 new COVID-19 cases and 28 recoveries yesterday.

The cases were confirmed by Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi.

The 19 cases were confirmed from 205 tests that were conducted. This means that the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 5 598.

Manzini Region recorded 12 cases; Hhohho had three, while Lubombo Region recorded two and one from the Shiselweni Region. Thirteen of the confirmed cases had mild symptoms, four were moderate and two were asymptomatic.  By gender, there are 2 975 female cases in total while males are 2 623. There were no cases from ages zero to 19 as reported cases were between 20 and 69 years age groups.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5 169. This means that active cases are 317 while deaths remain at 112. The difference between active cases and recoveries is 4 852 in favour of the latter.

The minister stated that even though the COVID-19 pandemic curve was showing a decline, coronavirus was still a concern in the country. She said until a definitive treatment or vaccine for COVID-19 was found, another exponential increase in the number of cases was still possible if prevention measures were not adhered to.

“Our goal as a nation is to continue to halt the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the deaths associated with it. Achieving this goal calls for a collective effort. Every individual has a role to play in protecting themselves, their families, their communities and the nation from this  contagious virus,” she said.
