1 NEW DEATH BRINGS TALLY TO 112

MBABANE – The Ministry of Health announced one new COVID-19-related death yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 112. 

The case was confirmed by Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi. 

The death was that of a 68-year-old man from the Hhohho Region, who died on Sunday, October 4, 2020 in one of the health facilities. He was being managed in the intensive care unit and treated for COVID-19-related complications, according to the minister. 

Meanwhile, there were 10 new COVID-19 cases that were recorded yesterday from 173 tests that were conducted. This means that the total number of COVID-19 cases stand at 5 579. Manzini Region recorded four cases; Lubombo had three, while Hhohho Region recorded two and one from the Shiselweni Region. All the reported cases had mild symptoms.  

Cases 

By gender, there are 2 962 females cases in total while males are 2 617. There were no cases from ages zero to 29 as reported cases were between 30 and 79 years age groups. There were 14 new recoveries that were registered yesterday. The total number of recoveries now stand at 5 141. This means that active cases are 326 while deaths are 112. The difference between active cases and recoveries is 4 815 in favour of the latter.  

The minister stated that even though the COVID-19 pandemic curve was showing a decline, coronavirus was still a concern in the country. 

She said until a definitive treatment or vaccine for COVID-19 was found, another exponential increase in the number of cases was still possible if prevention measures were not adhered to by the nation. 

“Our goal as a nation is to continue to halt the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the deaths associated with it. Achieving this goal calls for a collective effort. Every individual has a role to play in protecting themselves, their families, their communities and the nation from this deadly, contagious virus,” she said.
