MANZINI – For the past two weeks, the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Hhohho Region.

In an analysis conducted by this publication, since a fortnight ago, the Hhohho Region recorded the most number of positive cases, which has in turn raised concerns in some sectors of society. A comparative analysis of the cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases for the two-week period, starting July 26, 2020 to August 9, 2020, revealed that Hhohho showed the highest increase of 624 confirmed cases during this period, while Manzini showed an increase of 256 confirmed cases.

Confirmed

During the first week, starting July 26, 2020, the Hhohho Region recorded 1 106 confirmed COVID-19 cases, while the Manzini Region recorded 1 273. This means that in the past two weeks, Hhohho has recorded 46 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 than Manzini. Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi shared that Manzini had recorded a reduced COVID-19 infection rate in the past two weeks, during a radio interview yesterday. This was before she detailed how the door-to-door campaign had been instrumental in the reduced infection rate of COVID-19 in Manzini, which the ministry intended to adopt similar strategies in the Hhohho Region.

Campaign

The door-to-door campaign forms part of a six-point plan introduced by Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini a month ago, in the government’s bid to halt the spread of COVID-19. The campaign, which was embarked on by health personnel from mid-July, focused on education, finding cases, testing, treating, isolating and tracing contacts. The premier added it was evident that community transmission had been established in identified hot spots in the Manzini Region, and some parts of the Hhohho Region. Meanwhile, there was an increase of 60 confirmed cases in Shiselweni, while Lubombo showed an increase of 89 confirmed COVID-19 cases during the same period. It is worth noting that since government first implemented the partial lockdown to flatten the curve, the Manzini and Hhohho regions have recorded the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country.
