MANZINI - In what could be described as a first of its kind, police had to ferry three corpses to the mortuary from the same area in one day.

This happened on Sunday at Ekutsimuleni. In the first incident, the police had to ferry the corpse of Nhlanhla Emanuel Motsa, who passed away after he was allegedly hacked by his brother with a shovel.

This then led to the arrest of Mbuso Simon Motsa (28) of Ekutsimuleni, who was charged with the murder.
He appeared before Manzini Acting Magistrate Sicelo Lokotfwako yesterday.

Mbuso allegedly committed the offence on Sunday at Ekutsimuleni in the Manzini Region.
“The accused person did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally kill one Nhlanhla Emanuel Motsa by hacking him with a shovel several times on the head and thus committed the said offence,” reads part of the charge sheet.

Defence

During his court appearance, Mbuso’s right to legal representation was explained to him and he elected to conduct his own defence.
Mbuso was not made to plead during his court appearance, but instead he was remanded in custody until July 15, 2020 pending committal to the High Court.
He was also advised to move his application for bail at the High Court.

Meanwhile, according to statements recorded and submitted in court, the accused allegedly had an altercation with his younger sister prior to the accident.
On the day the accident occurred, it was alleged that the deceased confronted, the accused and probed why he was troubling their younger sister.
However, during the confrontation, Mbuso, who was said to have been clearing the yard using the shovel in question, allegedly pounced on his brother and hacked him with the shovel.

It was also alleged that after committing the murder, the accused did not attempt to evade the scene, but instead took his clothes, which were soaked in blood, and washed them.
After that he was alleged to have taken a shower, eaten his meal and waited for the police to apprehend him.
On another note, the police had to ferry the corpse of a community police member from the same area.

The community police member is believed to have committed suicide as he was found hanging from the rafters of his house.
Information gathered was to the effect that the community police member, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, had been allegedly summoned by the area’s headman to answer on accusations of illegally selling land in the area. It was said that after receiving the summons, the deceased pretended  like he would report to the royal kraal the following day, however, he did not honour the invitation and when his whereabouts were sought, he was found hanging from the rafters in his house.

Dead

In another incident, a 66-year-old man of the same area, identified as Samuel Magunekane Tsabedze, was also found dead in his house on the same day.
It was said that Tsabedze’s unresponsive body was discovered by his children, who reside at Malindza area.
It was gathered that the elderly man lived alone at Ekutsimuleni and was known to be a sickly person.

It was also gathered that the residents of the area were left with more questions than answers regarding Tsabedze’s death.
A litany of allegations on how he could have met his death were made but these cannot be printed as they were not proven.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incidents.
