51 NEW CASES, TOTAL NUMBER AT 449
MBABANE – Confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 seem to be on the rise as the country recorded 51 new cases yesterday, bringing the total to 449.
The cases were confirmed by the Minister of Health, Lizzie Nkosi, in a press statement issued yesterday.
The country had on Tuesday and Wednesday recorded 57 cases. This reflects that yesterday’s cases almost equalled the two days’ cases. A total of 176 results were received yesterday and 125 tested negative.
In the new cases, Manzini Region has 19, 15 from Lubombo Region while Hhohho Region, has 11 and six from Shiselweni Region.
Youngest
The youngest case is of a 12-year-old while the oldest is aged 70. There are 30 people who presented with a mild disease while the 21 were asymptomatic. Also, cases of males are 35 and of females are 16.
The statement shared by the minister stated that the cases from the Manzini Region were clustered around Zakhele Township and Ngwane Park, while those from Lubombo Region were a collective around Mpaka.
Meanwhile, those from Hhohho Region were centred around Mkhuzweni and the six from Shiselweni were scattered in different areas. The minister also confirmed an additional two recoveries, bringing the tally to 238. Director of Health Services Dr Vusi Magagula said they were yet to make a proper analysis of the trend and would give feedback today. It is worth noting that the health minister had highlighted that there were no backlog of tests in the laboratories following a protest by laboratory technicians in the past couple of days.
The cases that are reported on a daily basis are samples that are fresh from the ground, according to the minister. She also mentioned that they anticipated a further increase in figures 14 days after more businesses were allowed to operate and upon the opening of schools, which has since been shifted to July 6.
