LOBAMBA - Was prophet Isaiah referring to the coronavirus when he warned nations to remain in their houses until God’s wrath passes by?

This warning has been enforced in a form of partial and full lockdowns across the world after the outbreak of the coronavirus. Prophet Isaiah was one of the powerful prophets who were used by God to convey His messages to His people in ancient times. This question came up yesterday when pastors quoted the scripture in the book of Isaiah 26:20 during the national prayer held at the National Church at Nkhanini in Lobamba yesterday. The scripture reads: “Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until His wrath has passed by.”

The verse was quoted by the President of the Conference of Churches Bishop Steven Masilela when giving a vote of thanks at the end of the prayer session. The prayer session was attended by only 20 people who included the praise team and selected pastors from the three church bodies.  The number was limited to minimise the spread of the coronavirus. It was followed by the nation through the local television and radio station as well as on social media.

Destroying

Masilela said God would stop the angel sent to destroy emaSwati with coronavirus if the nation would stick to their partial lockdown and remain in the houses. The bishop also thanked Their Majesties for affording the nation an opportunity to join hands in prayer. He said there was no doubt that God would lift up His hand as alluded to by the other pastors. The man of God reminded the nation that it was not the first time money was not a solution during a crisis. He made an example that the same happened in Egypt in ancient times. “Money was never a solution and the people sent it back to the king. They asked for the Bread of Life, which is Jesus Christ,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pastor Shodi Msibi revealed a word of prophecy during the service. Msibi stated that as he prayed, God likened Eswatini to Jerusalem where 70 000 men died in three days after God had sent His angel to destroy them.  This, he said, was after the devil had incited King David to take a census of Israel.
