MBABANE – The South African nationals who were shot dead by the police at Motshane have been identified as Zipho ‘Mk’ Nkonyane and Ntokozo Nkosi.
The names of the deceased suspects were shared by an impeccable source who is privy to the matter.

Nkonyane (39) and Nkosi (40) were shot by the police on Wednesday after they resisted arrest.
They were reportedly certified dead at the Mbabane Government Hospital. It is suspected that they succumbed to severe loss of blood. Meanwhile, Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni said at this stage, the police would not be in a position to disclose the names of the deceased suspects.

confirmed

“We will only disclose their names after having confirmed with the concerned families.  We have started the process and we are currently working closely with our South African counterparts to locate their relatives,” said Mnguni.
It is alleged that when the duo committed the offences, they were in the company of a liSwati man who is currently at large.

The South African nationals and the liSwati man were wanted in connection with a string of robberies, attempted murder and theft. Nkonyane and Nkosi are reported to have staged a series of robberies in various places that are in close proximity to Siphofaneni on Tuesday.

Some of the places include Buy Cash Hardware where they allegedly went away with a sum of about E13 000.  The pair is said to have started their crime spree by stopping and hijacking a baked goods panel van.
They were also wanted for attempted murder charges after the shooting at the Mbabane Police Station.

possession

It is said the robbers fired at the police officers using two pistols that were in their possession.
However, as the skirmish intensified, the suspects managed to forcefully take an R4 assault rifle from one of the law enforcers.

According to sources, first to draw guns during the skirmish were the suspects, who were seeking to regain their freedom and avoid being arrested.
During a search of the place where the two were hiding, police found 14 cellphones, a pistol, cash and the R4 rifle, which was stolen from the police. In total the law enforcers recovered E28 000 in cash, two pistols, 20 cellphones and the assault rifle.
