NGABEZWEWNI- His Majesty King yesterday sent a stern warning to bongengeni.

Bongengeni refers to unmarried men who do not fall within the bracket of ingatja but participate in the fetching of lusekwane.
When commissioning the thousands of ingatja, the King warned bongengeni against neglecting the young boys during the course of the event. The Head of State urged bongengeni to look after the young boys from the commissioning until they return with the shrubs.

Journey

The young boys travelled approximately 40 killometers. Their first journey started from Ngabezweni Royal Residence to Esikhaleni where they fetched the shrubs. From Esikhaleni they marched to Luddzidzini Royal Residence where they would deliver the shrubs this morning.
The King said it was against Eswatini culture for bongengeni to show their face before the young boys.

“Bongengeni are not expected to come before ingatja. Their core mandate is to look after ingatja so they are not expected to come before the young boys. They should know that they have destroyed Eswatini culture once they come before ingatja,” the King said.

He also warned the tindvuna against neglecting the young boys during the course of the event. The King reminded tindvuna that their role was to look after the young boys at the event.

“Aseyime lemijeje,” the King said loosely translating to: “maintain your groups.”
On another note, Ingatja sent their profound gratitude for the surprise gifts from the King. The young boys and warriors received sneakers and T-shirts which were served along with food upon their arrival at Ngabezweni Royal Residence.
