EZULWINI – The Prime Minister, Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, has strongly warned against disrespecting His Majesty King Mswati III.

In his closing remarks during a meeting with the Editors Forum convened at Sibane Hotel yesterday, the PM said he was seriously concerned about the manner in which the King was being addressed lately.
Dlamini said he had noted statements and insinuations on social media and other forums where there was clear disrespect for the King, who is the Head of State and Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

“We want to discourage that and tell emaSwati they must desist from that using the aforementioned platforms,” sternly warned Dlamini without precisely pointing out what would be the consequence of disrespecting the King.

Disrespect

Dlamini pointed out that it waas not constructive to show disrespect to the King given the fact that the institution of the Monarch has been historically respected for more than 500 years.

“The direct attack on the Head of State, which we are seeing now is something we are not used to as emaSwati. We are discouraging that because it’s not our culture to do that and what we can also add is that the institution of the Monarch is a unifying force in this country. It has helped to retain emaSwati for all these centuries,” firmly said Dlamini.

He stated that they had seen emaSwati allowing themselves to be influenced by outsiders who had agendas of their own.
“We should not allow them to bring disunity in this country and cause us to adopt certain behaviours, behaviours that are completely outside of our values as emaSwati,” he said.

The PM’s responses were after The Nation Magazine Editor Bheki Makhubu had wanted to know who was setting the King against the nation, particularly on the acquisition of Rolls- Royce vehicles for royalty.
He said what he did not understand was why the vehicles were delivered in broad daylight because this was what angered the people.
In response, the PM said the Rolls-Royce issue had been previously addressed.

Matter

He reiterated that it was a private matter pertaining to the Head of State.
“These are private,” said Dlamini.
Still on patriotism, the PM said His Majesty remained the King of emaSwati and this should be maintained. He said there was something very interesting where people from outside the country objectively admired emaSwati for retaining their heritage in respect of the institution of the Monarch.

“We need to keep at that level and support that. At the end of the day, we only have one country and no other,” he emphasised.
The PM said if you wanted to anger emaSwati, you should speak ill of their King, and they would show you their true colours.
He said people have got agendas, but emaSwati should not allow them to bring disunity in the country and cause the nation to adopt certain behaviours that were completely outside of our values as emaSwati.

“Sikhule sati kutsi labadzala bayahlonishwa, (We grew up knowing that elders should be respected) let alone when you are talking about the head of State. So we are encouraging all emaSwati to really continue to retain the values that we are known for,” he added.
He said as PM and Cabinet, they were encouraged to hear that the media was very respectful and supportive of the Head of State and thanked it for that.
