NHLANGANO – The businessman accused of killing his wife was taken into custody yesterday after a week-long manhunt.

Nhlangano businessman Vusi Sokalezangoma Dlamini, who owns a fleet of kombis, surrendered to the police at the Nhlangano Police Station yesterday afternoon. Authorities said he was accompanied by a legal representative when he arrived at the police station.

Police are said to have conducted a formal interview and subsequently charged him for the alleged murder of his wife Nokuthula Dlamini (nee Vilakati), a teacher at Othandweni Primary School, which is situated on the outskirts of Nhlangano.

The latest development was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati when contacted yesterday. “Yes, he turned himself in today (yesterday). He was accompanied by his lawyer,” Vilakati said.

Dlamini had been on the ‘wanted’ list of the Royal Eswatini Police Service for about a week, after police obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was being sought for the role he is alleged to have played in the murder.

The woman was discovered murdered at her home, which is situated at Davies area, under Ngwenyameni Chiefdom, a week ago. Her body was found sprawled on the house’s bloodied toilet floor, with a gunshot wound to the forehead.

The husband was immediately considered a suspect after he allegedly disappeared from the homestead.
Police have been searching for him ever since his wife’s corpse was discovered. Detectives were informed that the couple was having marital problems and had approached the courts to mediate in their dispute while they lived separately.
