DVOKOLWAKO – Enough is enough! This is a message from Dvokolwako High School pupils’ parents to the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the head teacher and the school committee.

During a meeting yesterday, the fuming parents demanded that the ministry should remove the Head teacher, Sabelo Sibandze and the school committee.
In fact, the parents said they came to the meeting only to bid farewell to the head teacher and school committee because they did not want them in the school.
They said if the ministry failed to remove them, it should rather close the school.

Their argument was that they would not afford to send their children to a school which was administered by someone who was suspected of irregularities.

Allegations

Even though they made a litany of allegations against the head teacher, they cannot be published as they cannot be substantiated.
The urgent parents’ meeting was called by the ministry, through the Hhohho Regional Administration Office (REO) and was held at the school’s multipurpose hall (MPH), following the chaotic riot by pupils which took place on Monday.

Joseph Mgabhi, who was sent by Dvokolwako Royal Kraal to chair the meeting, said its agenda was to deliberate on what the ministry could do in order for the school to continue operating.

Bheka ‘Gandaganda’ Magagula, who was first to make a suggestion, said the incident which took place on Monday taught them a lesson.
He said in order for a school to be established, the parents should approach the royal kraal to ask for it, which meant that both parties were important stakeholders in the institution.

He mentioned that the royal kraal was supposed to be represented in the school so that it could get constant reports on what was happening in the institution.
“This was not the case in our school,” he said.

On that note, he suggested that the school should be run like all other institutions by having a representative from the royal kraal (liso lendlunkhulu).
“The pupils can be controllable only if the ministry can remove the head teacher and the school committee. So, my plea is that the ministry should change the leadership of the school,” he said and his submission was followed by a loud round of applause from the rest of the parents.

Parents who made submissions after Magagula shared the same sentiments and this prompted the team, which was representing the ministry, to ask that anyone who was going to speak should  submit a point which was different from the suggestions of removing the head teacher and school committee.
However, the next parent who made a submission said he believed that every parent who came to the meeting to make that suggestion, should do so despite the fact that the point had already been said.

“We are repeating this point because the head teacher ulinyeva kitsi (is a thorn in the flesh). Again, it has to be on record that this point was said by so many parents, instead of making it as if it was suggested by just an angry guardian,” he said.

On the same note, another parent, Ngwabela Mamba, said the ministry should remove the head teacher and appoint a commission of inquiry.
Furthermore, Mcolisi Nxumalo, who is parent and a former pupil of the school, said according to his analysis, the riot was long overdue.

Concerns

He said as parents, they had also failed their children because they kept quiet despite the fact they were aware of the concerns which were being raised by the children about the school.
“One will argue that as parents we were hoping that the school committee would address the issues, but it failed us and our children,” Nxumalo said.
On that note, Nxumalo suggested that the head teacher should be given special leave while the ministry appointed a commission of inquiry.
