MBABANE – Was the arrest of Mbuso Setilo a wake-up call for his alleged accomplice?

This is a question that could come to one’s mind after a man suspected to be Setilo’s accomplice disappeared from Mahwalala. Setilo is the man of Lomahasha who was caught during a manhunt by the Royal Eswatini Police Service, along with rangers from Montigny Investments and the residents of Mahwalala last week Thursday. Information gathered from the residents of the area was that, the man disappeared just after Setilo was arrested.

Survivors

“We will not rest until we find this man. Most survivors told us that they were attacked by two men, one who is suspected to be Setilo. We are hoping that the second suspect would soon be caught because he is known to some residents,” said one of the residents yesterday. He said the arrest of Setilo had encouraged the residents to search for suspects believed to be linked to crime in the area. The residents said what Setilo allegedly said in his confession had somehow confirmed their earlier suspicions that he was not alone. In his confession last Saturday, Setilo is alleged to have claimed that he was not alone when committing the offences in the area.

Some residents held the belief that the suspect behind the rape, murder and robbery cases was not alone when committing the offences. They attributed their belief to certain factors. They observed that someone shared food, cigarette and alcohol with Setilo in his hiding place during the day. The residents also recalled that Setilo was frequently seen with one of the residents on numerous occassions. They stated that even those who were naïve had a change of heart after the arrest of Setilo. “Some people feared for their lives during the search for Setilo, however, they have since joined the community patrols,” said one of the community police members. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said police would continue to provide security in the area.
