TINGULUBENI – Brutal killings, accompanied by the victims being chopped into pieces, seem to be on the rise.

Police have confirmed yet another incident of two members of the Tingulubeni Community Police forum  being killed; one had his body parts dismembered.
Tingulubeni is a remote place situated on the outskirts of Matsapha, in the Manzini Region.

It is known to be notorious for crime and violence, similar to Mbhuleni.
Over the weekend, two community police members were brutally killed, allegedly by suspects who are on the police wanted list for a series of copper cables theft.

Copper

The allegations that the copper cables theft suspects could be behind the murder came to light after it was gathered that they (suspects) were unhappy with having their cables taken from their hiding place. They suspected that members of the local community policing forum may have been behind it.
As such, it is believed that they launched a revenge attack, though police investigations are yet to confirm this theory.

The three suspects, who are wanted by the Serious Crimes Unit (LUKHOZI) in collaboration with the Matsapha police, are alleged to have been infuriated by the community police members whom they also labelled as whistle-blowers.

Forests

“They (suspects) lived in thick forests around Tingulubeni as they were on the run. They stole copper cables and kept them in the same forest, together with their blankets and other belongings. Last week, when they returned to their shelter, they discovered that all these items had been taken. This made them angry. After enquiring from a few people about their belongings and the copper cables, they were told that a team of police officers who had been looking for them had taken them,” a well-placed source alleged.

The source added that the suspects had a strong belief that the whistle- blowers were the community police members and decided to have a word with them. Upon arrival at KaMdodi, an area where waste is disposed of and where the members are based, it is alleged that a fight ensued, however, no one was injured.

Threats

“They left the place after issuing threats against the community police members and said they would do something they would regret soon. The community police members reported the threats to the police and statements were recorded,” the source further said.

A day later, on Thursday night, the suspects allegedly burnt a house belonging to one of the community police members, in revenge for the items which were confiscated by the police. A while later, one of the members, only identified as Chuster, while patrolling the area, came across the suspects, who were carrying a torch. After confirming it was him, they allegedly stabbed him in the chest, neck and head several times with a knife.

Chuster’s body was discovered last Friday with multiple stab wounds by residents who immediately called the police.
On the following day (Saturday), members of the public came across another body, which had been dismembered. It was confirmed that the second community police member was severely assaulted and his body chopped into pieces using bush-knives.

These gruesome murders have shocked and traumatised many, especially those who reside at the dangerous place.
