MBABANE – Private Investigator Hunter Shongwe was involved in yet another showdown with police officers.

This time around, Shongwe, claims to have been taken to the bushes and pointed with a gun by the officers, who allegedly threatened to kill him.
The showdown happened following the PI’s encounter with Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) employees, whom he had suspected to be copper wire thieves.

Shongwe called the police who in turn arrested and charged him for allegedly harassing and threatening EEC employees, while they were at work.
He was accused of pointing a gun at the employees after accusing them of stealing copper wire at a transformer opposite his house.
In an interview with Shongwe, he said he reported suspected copper wire thieves to the police on Thursday night after ordering them to come down from the transformer they were fixing, threatening to shoot them.

Shongwe said he was in fact scaring them with an American style Nato super paralisant (pepper spray).
He said the men heeded to his call and came down from the transformer and he called the police who arrived and instead arrested him.
According to Shongwe, the officers allegedly took him to the bushes where they told him they were going to shoot him.

“When we arrived there, one of the officers started arguing with the other stating that he would not commit such a crime,” alleged Shongwe.
He said the police were carrying machine guns and he was not armed.

Body

Shongwe said while they were in the bushes, he called his girlfriend, informing her about the incident and that in case anything happens, she should come and collect his body at the spot.
He said they then decided to take him to Lobamba Police Station, where he was locked up.

While at the police station, Shongwe alleged that he was interrogated by the police, who wanted a gun from him and he told them that he was not carrying one. Shongwe said he was carrying pepper spray which was powerful than a gun.

He alleged that the pepper spray was confiscated by the officers.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that police arrested Shongwe.
Vilakati said Shongwe was arrested and charged for harassing EEC employees who were at work.
