SENATOR MICHAEL TEMPLE DIES
MBABANE – Death has robbed the country of a great politician, businessman and philanthropist. Senator Michael Temple popularly known as Mike, yesterday drew his last breath after he collapsed following a morning exercise session at his home and was confirmed dead at Medisun Hospital in Ezulwini.
A family member, Mandla Dlamini, confirmed that the politician passed away at around 8:10am.
Dlamini, who is the senator’s brother-in-law, said he received a call that Senator Temple had collapsed while exercising.
“I was then told that they were rushing him to hospital. Later, I was informed that doctors certified him dead on arrival,” Dlamini, who is the Secretary of Liqoqo said.
Asked if the politician had been a sickly person, Dlamini responded to the negative.
Shocked
He said they were still shocked at of the sudden death because the senator never showed any signs of being sick.
Dlamini then passed condolences to the country’s authorities for having lost a true soldier in Senator Temple.
A close friend of the senator said it was suspected that he may have suffered a heart attack and efforts made by the medical staff at Medisun to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
News of the senator’s sudden death shocked many as people reacted by stating that they had just seen him on Thursday and on Wednesday where he attended an official assignment in his capacity as Chairman of the BUSHFIRE Festival.
Senator Moi Moi Masilela was one of those who reacted with shock when informed about Temple’s demise.
Masilela was called at around 4:30pm and asked to comment on the death of his colleague.
When asked if he had heard the latest news about the senator, Masilela asked; “Batsi wenteni Temple?”
This is loosely translated, “Come again?”
After he was told about the senator’s, the seasoned politician reacted: “Hhawu!! I have not heard the sad news. I have been attending to a certain issue with the police. I think some of my colleagues might have tried calling me.”
Valuable
Masilela said Parliament had lost a valuable asset in Senator Temple.
Senate President Lindiwe could not be reached for comment as her phone rang unanswered. The last attempt was made at 8:07pm.
At the time of compiling this report, she had not responded to text messages that had been sent through her WhatsApp.
Her deputy, Ndumiso Mdluli, said he only heard about the sad news informally through some colleagues.
However, he requested that official comments should be sought from the Senate president.
The Speaker in the House of Assembly, Petros Mavimbela, said Parliament had lost someone who had vast experience.
“From his submissions, one could tell that Temple was a seasoned politician with lots of experience.
