Manzini – Grief got the better of Baphatse Dhladhla’s mother as she collapsed during her son’s memorial service.

This poignant incident unfolded at the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, known as St Pauls Methodist Church yesterday at around 2pm.
The former political activist’s mother, Fikile Dhladhla (nee Simelane), could not contain herself as she collapsed immediately after her sorrowful speech in respect of her son.

So emotionally moved was Dhladhla, that she had to ask a family member to read the speech on her behalf as she could not articulate her words properly.
She was assisted by two family members to stand as she addressed the gathering.

A family member walked her to the podium and spoke on her behalf, given that she was too weak.
After the speech was read, Baphatse’s mother addressed the gathering and affirmed that it was her words.

She said she had special memories of Baphatse.
She described her son as a person with a strong character and personality.
“You are the son I will always love,” she said.

She also mentioned that she was lucky to have had him in her life.
Immediately after saying her remarks the deceased’s mother wept uncontrollably.

Some family members assisted her to her seat and that is when she collapsed.
She was taken out of the sanctuary for attention.
