SITEKI- Are churches harbouring crooks (botsotsi)?

Well, according to Pastor Bheki Benson Simelane, there are too many crooks in the church masquerading as believers. Pastor Simelane was a guest preacher at Hosanna Outreach Ministries International Church in Siteki on Good Friday. Delivering the main Easter sermon on Friday noon, Pastor Simelane, who is originally from Agape Life Ministries at Mpaka, bemoaned the moral degradation among Christians. “There are too many crooks in the church. Shockingly, even some churches have become crooks (botsotsi),” said Pastor Simelane. He deplored the tendency of some churchgoers who pretend to be born-again but continue with their immoral behaviour despite having joined the church of Christ. “You find a church member who owes money to everyone. He borrows money from every church member but fails to repay it,” Pastor Simelane said.

Warned

He warned congregants that they could never become true Christians no matter how long they could be members of a church. He said the only way one could become a true Christian was only if they sincerely repented and accepted Jesus Christ as their saviour. He mentioned that there was a vast contrast between true believers and pretenders, similar to the difference between the human and animal species. “No matter how long one can stay with cows, they would never become cows. No matter how long one could sleep in a garage, they could never be transformed into vehicles,” Pastor Simelane said. He urged Christians to completely abandon ungodly behaviours or any sinister activities once they were born-again. He further warned Christians not to think that they could cleanse their sins or transgressions by making offerings or through presenting gifts to the pastor. Pastor Simelane opened the book of 1st Corinthians 15:10 where he talked about the grace of God.

Theme

Preaching under the theme; ‘Raising the standard of commitment in the church’, Pastor Simelane stated that the church of Christ needed very committed believers during these end times. He said churches also needed to be firm in terms of upholding Christian principles and values. He warned churches against compromising with the truth. “There are people who are offended when we speak the truth. “I am sorry to say this, but if you don’t want to hear the truth; there is the gate, you can leave,” pastor Simelane said. He stated that there was no way churches could compromise on the truth because it is the foundation of the Christian faith. He warned men of God against compromising on the truth when dealing with affluent or prominent members of the church. He told the congregants that he was once told a story of a church which ‘hides the truth’ from affluent members.
