PIGG’S PEAK – An intense investigation has been launched at Mzimnene High School following the dropping out of over three girls due to pregnancy, with teachers being the main suspects.

This is alleged to have happened despite tough measures being put in place by the Teaching Services Commission (TSC) to curb teacher-pupil relationships. There are allegations that teacher-pupil romantic relationships have been going on unabated at Mzimnene High School just like it is the case in many other learning institutions countrywide.

Parents

This publication has gathered that at least three pupils are said to be pregnant at the school though some parents are covering up the matter.
Teachers are alleged to be implicated in the pregnancies.

Last week, pupils had gone amok at the school in protest over a decision by the school not to allow participation in soccer games.
However, some of the parents alleged this was also a cover up to block officials from the Ministry of Education and Training who had been scheduled to meet parents and school officials to discuss the alleged romantic involvement of scholars and teachers. Due to the protest, the meeting with Education officials was rescheduled for another day.

During a visit to Ludlawini where the school is situated last Friday, members of the community, mainly parents, expressed concern about the state of the affairs at the school, particularly the sexual relationships between teachers and pupils.
The parents alleged that the teachers seemed to be doing as they pleased at the school.

They alleged that in one of the instances, a pupil is alleged to have been ‘smuggled’ into a teacher’s house using different vehicles.
It is alleged the teacher had colluded with taxi operators in making sure that no one knew who the girl was but ‘nosy’ neighbours, however, blew the whistle on the teacher.

On some days, to ensure no one could identify her, it is alleged that the pupil would sometimes use a balaclava or a hooded top to cover her head.
This is said to be one of the pupils who has fallen pregnant.

Other pupils are also said to have quietly left the school due to pregnancies, including one allegedly impregnated by a fellow pupil.
Interestingly, some of the parents who were interviewed said the parents as well the teachers, had been informed about the new Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act, which many in Mzimnene are informally referring to as ‘Sodova’.

Mzimnene is also the same school where it was previously reported that about two pupils ended up writing their Junior Certificate (JC) examination in a kitchen, separated from other pupils, due to being pregnant.
It is also the same school where a pupil was arrested for allegedly abandoning her baby immediately after giving birth.
Strip
Female teachers had initially noticed that she was pregnant and took her to a room where they ordered her to strip so they could see if she was indeed pregnant.
Noteworthy is that last Monday, this publication reported about a teacher who was allegedly caught red-handed with a pupil in a compromising position, though not at Mzimnene.
