SITEKI – “All this has happened through the will and grace of God.”

This is all Lihle Amos Ngozo (15) could say after learning that he was among the top performers in the Junior Certificate (JC) examination results of 2018. The Lasi (Ngcina) High School pupil defied all odds to obtain aggregate 93 per cent in JC and was placed position 13 on the list of overall best performers nationwide. Ngozo lost both his parents and currently resides with his grandmother, who is also unemployed. His school fees are paid for by government through the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programme. Ngozo said he was very happy with his performance, further attributing the good performance to the hard work he put in during preparations for the examination. “I was paying attention and listening attentively in class. I also made use of past examination papers in preparation for the exam,” he stated.

Motivated

He further stated that he was motivated to work hard by his Pastor, Amos Mahlalela, who is also the Principal of Ngwane College in Nhlangano. “He inspires me a lot. I got motivated when he told us about his background; how he started school very late but made it to the top,” said Ngozo. Furthermore, Ngozo stated that he drew motivation from the situation at home and his desire to become a medical doctor. “I want to study medicine because I’m good in Science and Maths,” he said, while also thanking his teachers for preparing him for the examination.
Meanwhile, Lasi (Ngcina) High School’s administration said it was very proud of Ngozo’s remarkable achievement. “He has demonstrated that pupils from rural areas can also obtain high marks just like their counterparts in urban areas. We are very happy for him, especially because he comes from a disadvantaged family,” said head teacher Victus Hlophe.
