MBABANE – Was it a witch-hunt or were they getting biblical about sexual immorality?

This is in reference to the hauling of a woman before authorities of Nduma Royal Kraal in Motshane to explain if her daughter ever had a relationship with one of the over 30 pastors whose churches are located in several communities under this chiefdom’s jurisdiction.

She reportedly told Bandlancane (inner council) that her daughter told her she had never at any time been in a relationship with the pastor.
Secondly, sources said she also denied allegations that the anointed clergy was the father of her daughter’s child.

Her daughter is a senior accountant in one of the big corporate entities in the country.

SIRING OF CHILD

The name of the implicated woman and the pastor, and that of her mother will not be revealed because there is no evidence pointing to the existence of the relationship and subsequent siring of the child. However, she (implicated woman) will be referred to as Busi while the pastor’s pseudonym will be Evangelist Texas.

It has been established that the inner council is currently investigating the conduct of all pastors whose churches are located in the communities under its jurisdiction.
Impeccable sources said Busi’s two uncles, accompanied her mother to the royal kraal where they also expressed shock at being made to respond to perceived unfounded allegations.

If they confessed that Busi had a relationship with Evangelist Texas, informers confided in the Times SUNDAY that the inner council would have taken drastic steps against the man of the cloth.
It would have been worse if it was proven beyond reasonable doubt that Busi’s child was actually fathered by him (pastor), sources said.
Evangelist Texas is married.

There are over 30 churches under Nduma Royal Kraal, the sources explained.
In an interview, Busi confirmed that her parent was summoned to the royal kraal a week ago to respond to the allegations that a certain pastor fathered her child. She said two of her uncles accompanied her mother to the umphakatsi.
Busi got disturbed when she learnt that the media was aware of the issue, and asking questions about it.

“Now that you have also asked me about it, it looks like this issue is serious,” she said.
She wondered who was circulating the rumour that the pastor was her ex-boyfriend.

“What I am concerned about now is to know the person who’s tarnishing my image. This is really hurting me. They summoned my mother and my uncles to umphakatsi to answer questions that didn’t make sense because I don’t know the pastor they were talking about,” she added.
Mike Shongwe, one of the inner council members, confirmed that Busi’s mother was asked to appear before authorities to help them intensify their investigation into the pastor’s conduct.

“It’s true she was accompanied by the woman’s (Busi) two uncles,” he said.
He said Busi was not present.
Shongwe said Busi’s mother and her uncles refuted the allegation that the pastor fathered her child. Asked why they resolved as umphakatsi (indlunkhulu) to embark on what looked like a witch-hunt expedition, he said they based their investigation on the old adage that there was no smoke without fire.

IMPREGNATING WOMEN

A close ally of the accused pastor said he was aware of the issue. He said it began two months ago when one of the area’s men of the cloth ‘lied’ to some people that he heard his pastor vowing to impregnate lots of women in the area.
“That was a lie calculated at undermining my pastor,” he said.

He said some church leaders were mobilising the community to revolt against Evangelist Texas. He said the churches feared competition.
“We are not in competition with any church, instead we complement what other churches are doing – just preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. But, we are worried that certain people have resolved to tell lies about us,” he said.

He said Evangelist Texas was being prosecuted for sins which he never committed. He said his pastor was a noble and married man who respected his wife and in-laws, wondering why people stooped so low as to fabricate false stories about him.
Busi’s mother preferred not to comment on the issue.
Bishop Stephen Masilela, the President of the Swaziland Conference of Churches, said he was in Dubai, and would not be in a good position to give a comment from an informed position.
