MBABANE – South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa and Eswatini’s Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, are birds of the same feather.

Flocking together in the path of economic recovery and sustainability, they have respectively decided to trade in the life of exclusive and luxury travel for business and economy class flights.

Dlamini announced yesterday at a press conference in Parliament that the country’s high-ranking politicians and figures of authority would no longer travel first class.

He, alongside the Deputy Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, presiding officers, principal secretaries and all others in the same category would travel in business class when attending to national duties. All other public servants will fly in economy class. He declared this as part of the strategy to tighten the tap on government’s rapidly leaking funds.

This announcement coincided with pictures of Ramaphosa onboard SA fair economy class flight, that were splashed on social media platforms. This was during his trip to Durban yesterday morning.

According to reports from  South African publication, News24, the president will use this mode of transport as it is more practical, convenient and cost-effective.

This is despite that South Africa is one of the largest economies in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
When comparing the gross domestic product (GDP) of both countries, South Africa currently sits at 349.42 billion US Dollars, while Eswatini records a 4.409 billion US Dollars GDP.

This reflects that,  even with South Africa being more developed, the president is cognisant of the need to cut-down on government expenditure.
