MBABANE – The adage ‘a wise man changes his mind’ rings true for Chief Executive Officer of the Swaziland Investment Promotions Authority (SIPA), Phumelele Dlamini, who has been caught up in a resignation drama.

This comes after she allegedly tendered in her resignation letter to the company last week and later withdrew it.
It has been gathered that Dlamini tendered the resignation following some demands made by the pararstatal’s Board, which called for her to provide clarity on a variety of issues.

Instead of providing what the board demanded, Dlamini is alleged to have made her intentions of leaving the pararstatal known by tendering her resignation letter last Wednesday.

Accepted

Following her decision, the Board is said to have met on Friday where the issue was discussed and the letter was accepted.
The Board is said to have informed Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Mancoba Khumalo of the latest developments.
However, things are said to have changed on Monday when Dlamini then informed the Board that she had changed her mind and was withdrawing her resignation.

This allegedly happened when the parastatal’s staff was to be informed.
When called yesterday, Dlamini did not entertain the question whether she had resigned. Instead, she told this reporter that she did not know what she was talking about.

“I do not know what you are talking about. Actually I am in the office right now,” she said.
However, when the minister was called on the matter, he confirmed knowledge of it but said he was yet to get a full report as he was currently away in Ireland.

“I am aware of the issue. The Board is managing it right now. Kindly ask the Board chairman. I will meet the Board next week and I am sure they will brief me properly on the matter,” he said.

Also confirming the resignation was SIPA Board Chairman Sandile Simelane, who, however, did not dwell much on the alleged withdrawal.
“I can confirm that the chairperson received the CEO’s resignation letter which was accepted by the Board,” Simelane said in a text message he sent to this reporter.

He then referred other inquiries to the minister.

Chairperson

This reporter made another effort to explain to Dlamini that both the minister and Board chairperson had confirmed her resignation by SMS at 6:40pm.
By 7pm, she had not responded.
It should be noted that the CEO has had her own fair share of controversies at the parastatal.
