MBABANE – The court yesterday heard how a popular traditional healer was allegedly paid E500 to help exonerate murder suspect Lucky ‘Obama’ Matsenjwa from the crime.

The traditional healer allegedly applied muti on a list containing names of police officers who arrested  Matsenjwa and instructed his brother to bury it in an anthill so that he may be released.

This evidence was given by Zandile Malinga yesterday. Malinga told the court that she assisted the traditional healer, Gogo LaZawane Mndzebele of Sidzidzini, at Mahlangatsha, because she is an elderly person and has a hearing problem.

Malinga’s evidence was corroborated by that of Reuben Ngwenya, who was one of the witnesses to be paraded by the State.
Ngwenya told the court that he accompanied Matsenjwa’s wife to the popular traditional healer known as gogo LaZawane.

He told the court that LaZawane was a popular traditional healer at Sidzidzini in Mahlangatsha and was known for helping people with various problems and sicknesses.

“She (Matsenjwa’s wife) told LaZawane that her husband had been arrested in connection with the death of a person and he urgently needed help so he could be released from prison,” submitted Ngwenya.

He narrated that LaZawane then instructed her assistant to go and fetch some concoction which she later mixed and gave to Matsenjwa’s wife.
According to Ngwenya, the traditional healer then gave the wife instructions on how the concoction was to be used.

“LaZawane told her (wife) that she must put part of the concoction in an anthill with needles and use a portion of it to wash clothes belonging to Matsenjwa. Shee said they must then take the clothes to prison and give them to her husband,” submitted Ngwenya.
