LOBAMBA – While His Majesty King Mswati III has invited public opinion ahead of the appointment of the new prime minister; a senior citizen felt that he should just exercise his constitutional powers.

Petro Mdluli (74) of Maphalaleni, said as far as the country’s Constitution was concerned, powers to appoint the PM vested in the Ingwenyama.
“This is the first of its kind and I think it is not meant to affect the King’s powers concerning the appointment of the PM. I don’t even know what to say because the Constitution gives the King powers to use his discretion,” Mdluli said.

Truth

He said even though the King could consider their thoughts and opinions, the truth was that he had to appoint the PM.
“I don’t want to lie; I don’t have any candidate in mind. I will accept whosoever the King deems fit to lead government,” he said.
Maswazi Dlamini of Nkhanini, believes that the King invited the public opinion because he wanted to make a clear choice on obvious candidates.

“I think the King has many deserving candidates in mind. Once a person seeks God and ancestors’ intervention, it means he wants guidance. He might have the candidates in mind but if they are not chosen by God and the ancestors, they might not lead the government properly,” he said.

Maswazi warned emaSwati against taking the King’s stance for granted as God and the ancestors might show the direction to the nation ahead of the appointment of the PM.

According to Maswazi, Secretary to Cabinet Mbuso Dlamini could possibly be among the candidates who were on the King’s list.
He said this was because Mbuso had served with the late former PM.

He said Mbuso had a good political background as he served with the former PM, who was referred to as fecela during his appointment.
