MBABANE – Members of Parliament (MPs) alleged to have taken money from a Senate hopeful claim to know nothing about any financial transactions.

All the legislators who were called and questioned on the allegations of having received money the former Senate hopeful in favour of their votes, have denied ever taking it. The MPs said the candidate should try and recall whom she made the transactions to as they have never solicited funds from her in return for their votes.

In an interview with one of the MPs, he said he knew the senate hopeful from Parliament as they worked with her in the past. He said he did not know anything about the money which she claims he took. The MP said she should recall clearly and follow-up on whom she really gave the money to.
“I would not have approached her because I won fairly at my constituency where I campaigned successfully. Actually, it was the aspiring senator who came to me to request for votes,” said the MP.

 Tarnish

The legislator said the aspiring senator was out to tarnish his name and he would take legal steps to address the matter.
He said he needed her to furnish him with evidence that she gave him money in return for votes.

The MP said it was the aspiring senator who approached him and asked for a vote. “It is a lie that I approached her,”  said the legislator.
Another MP, who is alleged to have returned the money he allegedly took from the Senate hopeful on various intervals, also denied ever receiving any cash.
He said she must have mixed up a few things. The legislator said it was probably a tale that she was telling and should actually double-check her records on whom she gave the money to. “I don’t know anything about the money but I have a good relationship with her husband,” the MP said.

The MP said he knew nothing about the money which he is alleged to have taken.
“She must provide whatever evidence she claims to have about me, but all I can say is that I did not take money from her,” he said.
When questioned, another MP who was alleged to have paid back the money in full, first denied ever taking it from the former Senate hopeful. However, the MP then called back this publication and further clarified on what happened.
