PASTOR LINDIWE FAVOURITE FOR SENATE PRESIDENT POST

MBABANE – Lobbying for the Senate President seat has started among the newly appointed senators.


A day after the appointed senators were announced to the public by the Chairperson of the Elections and Boundaries Commission, Chief Gija, some of them were already lobbying their colleagues to consider them for the Senate president seat.


According to a number of senators, the lobbying started just after the appointees were announced and Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini is one of the senators being eyed for the seat. The former Minister of Public Works and Transport is the only appointed member of the Executive which recently exited office.


Winile Nxumalo, an elected Senator, said she supported Dlamini due to her experience in politics. She touted Dlamini as the best to take over the seat as she would assist them push the agendas of Senate. “I believe she can do well for us as she is a hard working woman,” Nxumalo said.


Nxumalo said no one had phoned her but she felt that Dlamini was the best candidate to take over the seat. She said her candidate for deputy president was Mike Temple.


Another elected senator said: “I was phoned by a senator who lobbied that I vote for Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini. The senator said Dlamini was experienced and was a pastor, which would make her put the Lord first while doing the duties of the House.”


However, the former minister’s phone rang unanswered when this publication sought her comment on whether she would be interested in taking the seat.
Meanwhile, His Majesty King Mswati III appointed seven women into Senate. Making the list was his first-born daughter Princess Sikhanyiso, followed  by Princess Tsandzisile, Princess Ntfombiyenkhosi and Inkhosikati LaMasuku.
