MBABANE - They voted for him to represent them in Parliament but little did they know that his victory would put his life in danger.

Instead of celebrating his victory in the recently-ended national elections, Siphofaneni MP-elect Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane is allegedly worried about his life.

Worried

He is not the only one worried but his father, Swelezakhe Simelane, is as well. In an interview yesterday, the 75-year-old man narrated how he had allegedly been receiving calls from several people since Sunday, urging him to warn his son that he should watch his back. He said he had no idea why the callers wanted him and his son dead. The hired hitmen, according to Swelwe, had been given the task of monitoring his son’s movement, including allegedly  walking around his homestead.

“I received calls from people telling me that my son was in danger as there were individuals who had been hired to kill him. I informed him about it because the neighbourhood where he stays has experienced some violent scenes recently,” he said. According to the father, the people who called him said his son should not dare drive one of his cars, believed to be white in colour, as it was the one that was targeted by those who had been allegedly hired to kill him.

“They said in the event that the car was driven by his son, he should make sure that the windows are kept open so that he could be easily identified. The fear was that he might be killed when in fact it was his father they were looking for,” narrated the elderly man. He said he received another call from a female resident on Monday morning, asking him where he was and that he informed the caller that he was at one of his three homes, situated at Mkhwakhweni area in Sihlutse. The female caller, according to Swelezakhe, advised him that he should go to Siphofaneni and spend time at his son’s homestead for some few days.
