LUDZIDZINI – There was a near stampede as young maidens threw themselves to the ground in front of His Majesty King Mswati III who was doing kudlalisela.

This took place during the annual Reed Dance ceremony which was held at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence arena yesterday afternoon.
After dancing in front of the King and the Queen Mother, the over 100 000 maidens formed three groups in the arena.

Thereafter, the King was accompanied by libutfo to do kudlalisela to the maidens. Whenever the King did kudlalisela, the maidens would shout Bayethe wena Waphakathi! at the top of their voices.

However, some maidens failed to hold back their excitement as the King did kudlalisela in front of them as they threw themselves to the ground while others kneeled down. Meanwhile, those who were at the back also pushed forward to be close to the King and by so doing, those in the forefront were pushed closer to His Majesty.

As a result, the King’s bodyguards had to intervene and block the maidens from getting closer to His Majesty. Meanwhile, the King continued to smile as he did kudlalisela to other maidens.
