MANZINI - Mourners were left tongue-tied after the mourning Bishop Enoch Maseko took to the podium much against the programme of the memorial service and without being called by the MC.

In fact, the master of ceremonies (MC) was busy with other arrangements and the bishop did not waste any time but took to the podium.
The mourning Maseko said he was aware that his name was not in the programme and the MC had not called him to the podium.

However, he said since he was there, he felt like he should stand up even though he was still in mourning and not supposed to talk. This is because people had been talking and they were doing so because they knew that he would not respond because he was still mourning.
“I am in front of you now. Talk so that I can answer you,” he said.

After being silent for a while, the bishop asked to pose a question to the mourners, which he did before getting a nod from them.
“If your enemy is in bed, sick, can that person ask you to pray for him?”

Sick

The bishop said he was asking this question because when his wife fell sick, the first person she called was him.
He recalled that at that time (Saturday), he could not hear what she was saying but he asked to meet her in hospital.
Again, the bishop said at around 3am the following Monday, his wife called and asked him to pray for her.

“I went there at 7am and she asked me to place my hand on her chest. It was painful as I prayed for her,” he said.
Without saying much about the question, he told the mourners that those who were talking should continue to do so, as their gossip would lift him up.
Bishop Maseko is a member of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force and he is a chaplain in the military.
