MANZINI - Team doctors have asked for ‘modernised’ equipment from the Eswatini Football Association to flawlessly execute their duties.

Speaking through representative Melusi Lukhele during the closing ceremony of the Sports Medicine Course at Caritas in Manzini yesterday, the doctors asked EFA to equip each Premier League team with an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Medical experts define it as a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses potentially life threatening heart complications. AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman.

The AED costs around E20 000. “To professionalise and standardise our practice, we need the AED. Parents also want to ensure that their children (players) are safe with us,” said Lukhele.

EFA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu said his office would look into the request, as there were budgetary constraints.
In his submission, Lukhele further appealed for ambulances to be provided at every stadium during matches, regardless of the status of the match. “Referees should respect us and shouldn’t red card us unnecessarily,” he said.

Lukhele thanked EFA for the classes, saying they needed advanced courses outside the country. The doctors also asked for their profession to be respected, stressing on the need for only qualified personnel to assist players. Doctors from top teams who included Samkeliso Mdluli from Mbabane Swallows and Sabelo Mbuyisa of Manzini Wanderers were in class.
