MBABANE  –  The upcoming Swaziland National Association of Teachers’ (SNAT) national Biennial Conference and elections have been thrown into disarray again.

This follows that two teachers have filed an urgent application at the High Court where they are seeking an order directing SNAT to forthwith stop holding the conference slated for September 2 to 6, 2018.
The Biennial Conference is held every two years and SNAT last held it in 2016 where the outgoing Secretary General Zwelithini Mndzebele and Deputy President Vusi Sibanyoni were elected.

The teachers want the association to put the conference and elections in abeyance and further investigate alleged anomalies and breaches during the branch elections process. In one of the letters attached to the court documents, it is alleged that money was used to buy votes.

Lucky Mduduzi Zwane and Sabatha Maseko are further praying for an order interdicting SNAT’s Credentials Committee from continuing with the elections.
The duo alleged that the elections were marred with irregularities that morphed into a galaxy of scandals and there was a high possibility that other candidates who did not qualify in the nominations and branch elections might be elected into the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Respondents in the matter are SNAT, Credentials Committee and Mduduzi Emmanuel Mamba.
Giving a background of the matter, Zwane stated that there were branch elections of SNAT which were held on February 16, 2018.  According to Zwane, out of 15 branches, Mduduzi Emmanuel Mamba was elected in 11 as a deputy secretary general.
He averred that in those elections, the Credentials Committee allegedly did not realise that Mamba was not a subscribing member of SNAT for the past four months yet he stood for the elections.

“Mamba went further to contest this issue in court, wherein he alleged that he fully complied with the Constitution of SNAT and that he qualified as a candidate to be nominated in the executive structure,” submitted the applicants (Zwane).
He pointed out that the Industrial Court dismissed Mamba’s application because he failed to prove that he met all the requirements for his application to be successful.  Zwane averred that it was clear that Mamba’s nomination and election brought the elections process into disrepute.
