GUCUKA – Did police do enough to prevent the suspect in the murder of nine people as part of an insurance scam from killing innocent peopple?

One can ask this question after hearing the stories of two families of the women who were allegedly killed by George Amos Mamba and his co-accused.
Mamba, who is a traditional healer, is wanted by both Eswatini and South African police for the alleged murder of nine people and human trafficking. George allegedly lured three women from the country to SA, where they were either strangled or shot dead before their corpses were used to fraudulently claim insurance money.

Ntombikayise Nhleko, the mother to Cebisile Nhleko, still remembers the period her daughter died, allegedly after Mamba had promised her a job in SA.
Ntombikayise was found in her house at Enceka, near Sithobelweni where she still keeps a calendar in which the significant date of her daughter’s death is marked. She alleged that after she heard about her daughter’s death, she never kept quiet, but told police officers the identity of her child’s alleged killers.

She claimed that local police never made a follow-up on the alleged murder after she reported that her daughter had died in SA. She also alleged that a couple of weeks after her daughter’s death, George was arrested in SA for the crime. He was allegedly arrested on September 8, 2011. Cebisile died on August 19, 2011, and was buried on September 3, 2011.
Ntombikayise said he was later released after he identified other suspects involved in the matter.

“He identified three other people, who included two other traditional healers and a woman,” she said.
She claimed that the woman was Nokwazi Ngema-Zondi of KwaZulu-Natal, who was given a life sentence by the Pietermaritzburg High Court in February 2014. Zondi was allegedly George’s girlfriend.
She also alleged that SA police were told by George that one of the traditional healers was the one who shot Cebisile dead and all he (George) did was to lure her from Eswatini to SA.
