MBABANE – The long wait for travel documents might be over come Friday.

Ministry of Home Affairs Principal Secretary Anthony Masilela said travel documents would be delivered in the country this Friday. Masilela said this during an interview yesterday.

The PS explained that the travel documents were delayed by flight arrangements. He explained that their supplier promised them that the documents would reach Johannesburg, South Africa today. He also explained that from Johannesburg to the Kingdom of Eswtini, the travel documents were flown into the country in a chattered plane and they had been given an airway bill indicating that they would be in the kingdom on Friday.

Some of the affected people stated that the travel documents were not delivered because government failed to pay its suppliers. Masilela, when asked about this, said this was not true as government paid and they were informed by the supplier that the documents would be in the country on the said day.

Masilela said a lot of people had stopped applying for the documents because of the shortage. He stated that they did not have a lot of backlog as only a few people applied for them but did not receive them. He said those who continued to make applications were pupils who had to go for school trips. He explained that they were given international passports as they were still available.
“Travel documents will be delivered on Friday, people should come for them on Monday,” Masilela said.
