MBABANE – It’s yet another move by the JSC to reduce the backlog of cases.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has since appointed three acting judges of the Supreme Court.
One of those appointed is former Deputy Attorney General Sabelo Matsebula.

The former deputy attorney general has now joined his former bosses, Judge Majahenkhaba Dlamini and Judge Phesheya Dlamini, who are both permanent judges of the Supreme Court. Matsebula has been appointed alongside senior lawyers Judy Currie and Mabandla Manzini.  Their appointment is for a period of three months with effect from July 20, 2018 to October 20, 2018.

Manzini, who is also a conveyancer is not new in the position as he was once appointed an acting judge of the Supreme Court in 2016.
They were sworn- in last Friday where they took oaths of execution and that of allegiance.

Acting Supreme Court Registrar Banele Ngcamphalala confirmed the appointment of the three legal eagles. aw Society of Swaziland (LSS) Secretary General Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli said the society noted the appointments of the three acting judges but was quick to mention that there was a binding resolution by lawyers that there should be no acting judges.

“The exception with these appointments is that they only refer to Supreme Court matters on review.  There is a backlog of cases on review,” said Mdluli.

The appointment of the three brings the number of Supreme Court judges to 10.  Other permanent judges of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Eswatini are Chief Justice (CJ) Bheki Maphalala, Justices Robert Cloete, Jacobus Annandale, Phesheya Dlamini, Benjamin Odoki and Stanley Maphalala.
