MBABANE – World travellers have registered their heartfelt disappointment over the delay and ill-treatment they allegedly receive at the South African side of the Ngwenya/Oshoek Border Gate.

The displeased travellers have since voiced their concern through a petition which was directed to the management and staff of the border gate.

They stated in the petition that they were tired of the queueing for long hours at the border gate without explanation with regard to the cause of the delay when stamping their travel documents.
Some tourist, who spoke on condition of anonymity in fear of victimisation, alleged that their means to get the cause of delays were futile as they were met by rude officers and unprofessional officers.

Unprofessional

They alleged that the officers treated them in an unprofessional manner to the extent that they felt like returning back to their countries. Most of the concerned travellers were tourists who frequented the Kingdom of Eswatini for various reasons.
“The manner in which we are treated here will result in some of us not coming to Africa. It is a pity that we are in Africa to boost the tourism sector, especially in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” said one of the aggrieved tourists last Friday.

The travellers mentioned that they were treated better on the Eswatini side of the border gate in that the process was very fast compared to the South African side. They alleged that the officers were cooperative and always willing to assist them.

When the South African side of the border was visited following the public outcry last Friday, there were long queues inside the Immigration Department in the morning. As time went on, the queues were visible even outside the department.
