NOUAKCHOTT, MAURITANIA – The Kingdom of Eswatini will be pumping in E5 million into a fund to help rid the country of malaria.

This was revealed by His Majesty King  Mswati III in Mauritania yesterday during the launch of a ‘Zero Malaria starts with me’ campaign. It was held on the sidelines of the 31st African Union Ordinary Session which ends today.
The fund will be called the Malaria Fund and will be launched in Eswatini in October this year. His Majesty said the launch would be made possible through the support of the Secretariat of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) and that the money would be used to support critical areas where there are funding gaps.

“This allocation is a start-up injection and we commit ourselves to continue contributing towards it whenever there is a need. We appeal to the private sector and other stakeholders to join in this fight by contributing to the fund,” he said.
Present during the launch was the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, who also plays a significant role in the fight against malaria. The kingdom has been recognised for its elimination of malaria over the years which had a high success rate when compared to other countries. It now leads the alliance against malaria to help other countries duplicate this success across the continent.
