LOBAMBA – Outgoing Members of Parliament have used the last few days in office to demand answers on a variety of controversial issues.

This was evident yesterday when the MPs moved two motions, one of which was to demand that the Minister of Public Service, Owen Nxumalo, provides answers on why he stopped the investigation of the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF) by FSRA.
FSRA is an acronym for the Financial Services Regulatory Authority.

This follows reports that an application by FSRA to be allowed to continue with its investigations into the affairs of PSPF had been withdrawn after an alleged instruction from Cabinet.

Moving the motion in the House of Assembly was Nkhaba MP Menzi Dlamini, who said there was a need for the minister to explain to the nation why exactly the investigation had been stopped. “Sive sesiphaphulekile,” he said in vernacular, which means, “The nation is shocked.”

Dlamini was seconded by Mtfongwaneni MP Mjuluko Dlamini, who said investigations into operations of different government departments and parastatals were always frustrated.

According to the Mtfongwaneni MP, it was imperative for the minister to come out and give the nation reasons why he stopped the investigation, and argued that the parastatal concerned a lot of people.

As expected, MPs did not hesitate but stood up to show their support for the motion.
Nxumalo also stood up to request that he be given at least Thursday to submit the report and argued that he was not going to have  enough time to compile it.

“I acknowledge that the MPs want clarity on the issue but since tomorrow (today) I will be in Cabinet, I might not have the report ready by Wednesday. So I request that I at least be made to present it on Thursday,” he said.
